What should be included: |
- Technicians apply a layer of hot wax to the area where hair is being removed. After the wax hardens and cools, technicians quickly pull it away, often using a sticky strip of paper. They apply an oil, lotion or powder afterward to soothe redness.
Additional costs: |
- Many salons sell PFB Vanish a roll-on gel that prevents ingrown hairs and reduces red bumps. Application is recommended for several days after a waxing. Cost is $20. Also to reduce redness, Folica.com sells the GiGi Honee Benzokal Toner & Concealing Lotion[1] for $12.
Discounts: |
- Home waxing kits save time and money over repeat visits to the salon or spa. Folica.com sells the GiGi Facial Honee Kit for $70.
- Amazon sells a small waxing starter kit for $29. The set requires no pull-strips, and includes a cleanser and lotion. Replacement wax and strips cost $10-$15 each.

Posted by: a user in Edmonton, Other. | Posted: April 6th, 2011 06:04PM | Actually, there are 2 different kinds of waxing described here. There is strip wax and hard wax. Strip wax u apply a thin layer of hot wax. Then use a strip, which is not at all sticky and is more cloth-like, and pull the strip off. This is good for the longer hairs. Then there's hard wax. With hard wax, the wax is applied but it is thicker than strip wax. They tangle the hair up in it because it doesn't stick to your skin, therefore not taking off a layer of skin. The strip wax takes off the first layer of skin, so it exfoliates at the same time, and the same spot should never be done twice with strip wax. Anyways so after the hard wax is tangled up in the hair, it has to dry and harden. Then when it's dry, they pull the wax off taking the hair with it. This is better for shorter hairs. Just thought I'd let you know the difference. The prices shouldn't be any different for either of them though. |

I have been going her studio for maybe a little over 3 years after many many years of bad waxing experiences and I will never go anywhere else ever again! The *only* con is her prices have gradually increased, but I am sure that is do due the cost of everything going up in the economy right now. |
